Minutes

The regular meeting of the Home Education Advisory Council convened at 3:35 p.m. December 8, 1998 in the State Boardroom at the Department of Education. Elaine Rapp presided.

Members Present: George D'Orazio, Rachel Hopkins, Angie LeBel (recording secretary), Mike Benik, Mike Faiella, Dennis Wyman, Christine Hamilton (visitor), Katy Hamilton (visitor), Christine Pollina (visitor), Rob Drye, Elaine Rapp.

Members Absent: Robert Horan, David Batchelder, Gerald Bourgeois, Karen Tardiff, Rob Drye, Paul Krohne.

Due to inclement weather (snow, sleet, and freezing rain), the group agreed not to cover a full agenda so that members might get home before the weather worsened.

Minutes

A motion was made to accept the November meeting minutes. Motion passed.

HEAC Annual Report: Elaine Rapp

Annual Report to Board of Education was reviewed. The List of Home Education Council Members and a Resource List (of resources pertinent to homeschoolers) were added to the Report as attachments. The Board meeting is Tuesday, December 15.

New Council Member: Elaine Rapp

Commissioner Betty Twomey has appointed Dean E. Bensley of Newbury, New Hampshire to the Home Education Council. Mr. Bensley will represent the N.H. School Boards Association. He is currently a member of the N.H. School Boards Association Board of Directors and the Kearsarge Regional School Board.

Department of Education Report: Rachel Hopkins

Gerald Bouirgeois, Assistant to the Commissioner, and also a member of the Home Education Council will be retiring at the end of December. A replacement from the Department of Education will be named at a later date.

Debra Grabil, Interim Special Education Team Coordinator, will be invited to come to the January meeting.

A handout was distributed to Council members on the count of homeschoolers from 1985-1998.

Meeting Cancellation Policy: Elaine Rapp

In the event of inclement weather, the group agreed that they call Angie LeBel by noon on the day of a meeting to see whether or not the meeting has been cancelled.

The meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.
