Minutes

Those in attendance: Mike Faiella, Don Jones, Dennis Wyman, Jackie Teague, Elaine Rapp (chair), Karen Tardiff, Joe Rega, George D'Oriazo [sic], Rob Drye and Rachel Hopkins.

Discussion Notes:

HEAC minutes of the June 4, 1996 and the Sept 10, 1996 meetings are approved.

Elaine handed out a draft of the HEAC annual report for review and comment. It should be finalized in November.

Discussion on the Dual Enrollment Law - unclear relative to home schooled students accessing curricular activities in their district?

The Department of Education now is participating for over forty home schooled students. Jackie asked if HEAC has ideas on how to reduce this number due to the workload. The council discussed whether our annual report should recommend an additional person at the Department of Education to handle homeschooling.

The State Board has requested that motions be presented in writing. (For example - motion to accept report as written.)

We discussed a handout of the Pinkerton Academy Home Education Policy and the list of questions Mike prepared - (both attached)

It appears someone needs to challenge this policy to walk it through to decision.
Jackie will obtain answers to these questions for as well as invite David Gebhardt to the next meeting.
Q7 - is a successful evaluation for the program year in fact a promotion to the next grade?
Each of us should develop questions for David Gebhardt for next meeting.

The next meeting will be November 5, 1996 at 3:30 pm in Room 15 of the Department of Education.
